Smart Fundi

This social enterprise website was built for Smart Fundi, a Mbarara based venture building climate smart, affordable homes. Smart Fundi speaks to three audiences at the same time: families who want to stop renting, funders looking for measurable impact, and youth seeking green skills. Consequently the structure had to serve all three without confusing any of them.

The problem stated before the pitch

The site opens with the housing and climate challenge in plain figures, including how little of the population can access housing finance and how much of household income goes to rent. Because the founder lived that problem himself, his account follows immediately. As a result, the venture reads as a response to something real rather than as a business plan.

A social enterprise website that separates the audiences

Families need to know how rent to own works. Funders need impact numbers. Youth need the academy. Therefore each has its own route from the homepage, with distinct calls to action for applying, funding, partnering and volunteering. Meanwhile the six solutions, covering homes, solar, water and sanitation, the artisan marketplace, the academy and the stores, are grouped so nobody has to read all of them.

Impact mapped to recognised goals

Institutional funders assess against frameworks. Accordingly the impact figures are tied to specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, covering homes built, youth trained, scrap metal repurposed and trees planted. In addition, named testimonials from homeowners, a graduate and a banking partner support each claim.
