Kashongi SACCO

This SACCO website design was built for Kashongi Farmers Savings and Credit Cooperative, a member owned institution formed in 2006 in Kiruhura District. The SACCO had grown to more than 21,000 members and six branches, but most of its members still learned about products by walking into a branch. Consequently the site had to work as a branch that never closes.

Products explained the way members ask about them

Members do not search for financial products by category. They search for a specific need. Therefore the loans are named plainly: agriculture, business, school fees, bodaboda, emergency and kyapa. Each one states who it is for in a single sentence. In addition, the savings accounts are separated the same way, including the Tooto account and the women focused VSLA account.

A SACCO website design that carries the mobile channel

Kashongi runs mobile banking through MSACCO on both MTN and Airtel. Because many members hold basic phones rather than smartphones, the site prints the USSD codes and the SACCO identifiers directly on the page. As a result, a member can check a balance or deposit from a farm without travelling to a branch or calling for instructions.

Trust made visible

Financial institutions live on credibility. Accordingly the site states the registration number under the Cooperative Societies Act, the districts served, the staff count and the branch count. Meanwhile the values section, the AGM commitment and a regular news feed give members somewhere to verify what they hear.
